Why I Love Hakuba Village

Experiencing nature with all five senses.

What makes Hakuba Village special?

In Hakuba, I feel a deeper connection to nature than when I lived in the city. Here, I can truly sense the colors and beauty of nature through all five senses.

Any hidden gems that’ll make us feel like true Hakuba insiders?

You must visit all six different hot springs in Hakuba! Each source offers a unique experience, from sulfur-scented waters to crystal-clear baths with incredible views. If you're not comfortable with the traditional onsen experience, you can try the footbaths instead. It's a perfect way to relax both body and soul while soaking up Japan’s hot spring culture.

What's your favorite trail or run in Hakuba, and why?

In the summer, I recommend the Mountain Bike Park at Iwatake. It’s home to some of Japan’s best trails and offers an unforgettable experience for mountain bikers. I’m also a licensed rafting guide in Japan, so water activities are another must-try!

In winter, I love snowshoe trekking along the Matsukawa riverside. On a clear day, the views of the Hakuba three peaks are spectacular. Pack a coffee and lunch, and you’ve got the perfect snow picnic!

Any advice to keep us out of trouble while chasing adrenaline in Hakuba?

Make sure to follow the local rules and culture, as they may differ depending on the city or area. Whether you're biking or hiking in the snow, never venture beyond your skill level—it’s always risky. If you're unfamiliar with a course, I highly recommend going with an experienced guide.

What do you want visitors to take away from their trip to Japan?

Japanese food is a UNESCO cultural heritage, and every region offers unique flavors, especially in something as simple as miso soup. I hope visitors enjoy our cuisine and even take a cooking class so they can recreate Japanese dishes back home. Of course, I encourage everyone to return and experience authentic Japanese food again!
